How to Fix Cracked ATV Plastic

If the body plastic on an ATV gets cracked, fixing it yourself can save you money as well as the time it takes to order the replacement part and wait for it to arrive. Fixing a crack in your ATV plastic body can seem like a daunting task to someone who has done it before. Luckily, repairing a crack in ATV plastic is a relatively easy task, and can be done with a minimum of supplies.

Things You'll Need

  • Plastic patch puddy
  • Fine-grit sandpaper
  • Spray primer
  • Spray paint
  • Remove the damaged piece of plastic body. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the proper removal of the body parts.

  • Use a fine-grit sand paper to sand the plastic. Sand lightly until you have removed any scratches or imperfections.

  • Apply the patching puddy to cracks, holes and cuts. Apply the puddy evenly and smoothly. Allow the puddy to dry completely, then use the fine-grit sandpaper to sand the puddy until it is flush with the body.

  • Follow the instructions on the spray primer to apply it to the body part. When the primer has completely dried, apply two or more coats of spray paint. Allow each coat to completely dry before applying the next coat. Apply a coat of gloss finish, if desired.

  • Reattach the body part to the ATV once the paint has completely dried.
