How to Replace a Dodge Dakota Windshield Wiper Motor

The windshield wiper motor is the part of your Dodge Dakota that is responsible for moving the windshield wipers on your vehicle. It is highly recommended by auto mechanic professionals that you check the wiper motor for wear and tear every 50,000 miles. If the motor shows signs of wearing out it may be time to replace it. Replacing the windshield wiper motor is not a terribly complicated repair to make. The project only requires a few basic tools and the replacement parts to complete it.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Socket set
  • New wiper motor
  • Open up the Dakota's hood. Loosen up the nut securing the negative battery cable to the negative battery terminal. Remove the cable from the battery.

  • Disconnect the electrical power connector from its terminal on the windshield wiper motor. Use the socket wrench and socket set to remove the bolts securing the motor to the Dakota's firewall. Place the bolts in a secure place.

  • Pull out the windshield wiper motor. Place the new wiper motor in the vehicle.

  • Use the socket wrench to secure the new wiper motor in place with the bolts you previously removed. Reconnect the electrical power connector to the new wiper motor.
