How to Change the Fan Blower Motor in a 1995 Chevy Tahoe

The fan blower motor on a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe pushes the air out from the heater box and air conditioning condenser and blows it out through the vents in the dashboard. If the blower motor fails, then the Tahoe won't have any functioning heat or air conditioning. If this happens to your Tahoe, the solution requires taking out the old blower motor and replacing it with a new unit. This should take under an hour to do.

Things You'll Need

  • Open-end wrench set
  • Replacement blower motor
  • 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
  • Open up the passenger side door and look underneath the dashboard. Locate the blower motor housing, which is a round housing situated on the backside of the black plastic panel under the dash.

  • Unplug the wiring harness to the blower motor using your hands. Unbolt the shield around the blower motor using an open-end wrench, then pull the shield off of the motor. Unbolt the fan from the blower motor using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.

  • Unbolt the blower motor from the housing using an open-end wrench, then pull the blower motor out from the housing. Discard the old motor. Install the replacement motor into the housing with an open-end wrench.

  • Install the fan onto the replacement blower motor with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Reinstall the shield with an open-end wrench, then plug in the wiring to the harness with your hands.
