A 2004 Suzuki Forenza serpentine belt, sometimes referred to as a drive belt, is used to control many of the accessory devices in your car, such as the power steering, air conditioning and crank shaft. Serpentine belts are more efficient than the V-belts they replaced and take up less space in the engine compartment. Forenza owners can save the expense of taking their car to a mechanic by replacing the belt themselves.
Open the hood of the car and locate the serpentine belt. It is a belt that wraps around four pulleys and a tensioner arm. The tensioner arm keeps the belt tight around the pulleys. Note that the air filter housing blocks your access to the belt.
Take notes on the routing of the serpentine belt for later use. There should be a diagram of the routing under the hood of the car to help you replicate the routing.
Remove the assembly bolts for the air filter housing, pull out the tube connected to the housing and lift the housing out of the car.
Locate the tensioner between the alternator pulley and the crankshaft pulley. The tensioner is smaller than any of the pulleys the belt is wrapped around.
Loosen the bolt in the middle of the tensioner by turning it clockwise with a wrench. You will notice slack in the belt when the wrench is turned. Make sure you leave the wrench on the bolt so you can install the new belt.
Pull the old belt off of the pulleys and discard it.
Slip the replacement belt over the pulleys following your notes and the diagram of the routing.
Slide the belt over the tensioner and remove the wrench. The tensioner will take up the slack of the belt, tightening it over the pulleys.
Replace the air filter housing and insert the tube and assembly bolts.
