How to Reset the ABS VSA Light on a 2002 Acura Tl

The ABS (anti-lock brake system) VSA light on a 2002 Acura TL illuminates when the ABS computer detects a problem with the ABS or a related powertrain system. The ABS computer also stores a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) in its memory in addition to illuminating the light. The ABS light will not turn off until the DTC is cleared from the ABS computer's memory with an automotive scan tool.

Things You'll Need

  • Automotive scan tool
  • Turn off the ignition and place the Acura's transmission in park. Turn the ignition back to the "On" position.

  • Plug the scan tool's communication cable into the Acura's diagnostic port. This port is located under the dashboard on the driver's side.

  • Press the power button on the scan tool. Wait 1-2 minutes for it to boot up.

  • Choose "ABS" from the scan tool's start-up menu. Choose the function labeled "Codes" from the ABS sub-menu. Select the option to "Clear all current and previous DTCs." Watch the scan tool display for confirmation that the codes are cleared.

  • Unplug the scan tool from the vehicle and start the engine. Check the gauge cluster to confirm that the ABS light is no longer on.
