How to Replace a Saturn Ion Headlight

The Saturn Ion was a compact car made by General Motors between the 2003 and 2007. If you own one, then it is certainly time for some preventative maintenance. One item that you should regularly check are the headlights. In addition to helping you, the driver, see better at night, headlights have the job of making your vehicle visible to other drivers. A burned-out headlight is not just an inconvenience; it also becomes a road hazard. Luckily, changing one is a job that anyone can handle.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement bulb(s)
  • Open the hood of your Ion and look directly behind the burned-out headlight. Locate the two "L"-shaped retaining pins on the top of the light assembly. Twist each one to the left and pull them out to unlock the light assembly.

  • Pull the light assembly a few inches out of the car to access the electrical cable behind the light. Unplug this cord to cut the power.

  • Remove the burned-out bulb by first releasing the retainer ring around the bulb. Simply twist to the left to loosen; then remove the bulb in the same manner. Bring the bulb to a Saturn dealer to purchase an appropriate replacement bulb.

  • Insert the new bulb and then reverse the above steps: Screw on the retainer ring; reconnect the cable to back of light assembly; push the light assembly back into its place; secure in place with the L-pins.
