How to Replace a Dodge Neon Sway Bar Link

A sway bar link on a Dodge Neon connects the sway bar ends to the rest of the front suspension. Neon sway bar links are comprised of metal rods with rubber bushings at each end. The link absorbs some of the shock and tension between the sway bar and the suspension to aid the sway bar in performing its job. If the sway bar links wear out or incur damage and you have basic auto-repair skills, you can replace the Dodge Neon sway bar links in less than 40 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 ramps
  • 2 wheel chocks
  • Socket set
  • Drive the Neon's front tires onto the ramps. Place the wheel chocks around one of the back tires to hold the Neon steady.

  • Crawl under the Neon's front end with the socket set and replacement sway bar links.

  • Remove the bolts holding the sway bar links to the sway bar and suspension using your socket set.

  • Pull the old link out of the Neon's suspension by hand. Insert the new sway bar link and bolt it in place with the socket set.

  • Remove the bolts on the other side of the car holding the sway bar links to the sway bar and suspension using your socket set. Then pull the old link out of the Neon's suspension by hand and insert the new sway bar link and bolt it in place with the socket set.

  • Remove the wheel chocks and back the Neon off the ramps.
