How to Install an HID Light in the Chrysler 300C

High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights provide greater visibility in low light conditions and come in a wide array of color choices, from pure white or blue, to purple or even green. Although some of the lower end models of the Chrysler 300 series are still equipped with halogen headlights, the 300C takes advantage of the brighter, more powerful HID technology.

Things You'll Need

  • HID bulb
  • Torx screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Open the hood of your 300C. The hood release lever is under the steering wheel. The hood latch is at the mid-point of the hood and will release when you push it to the left.

  • Remove the rubber headlight covers. The cover on the passenger's side of the 300C is easily accessible directly behind the headlight. The cover on the driver's side is just in front of the air filter housing.

  • Loosen the hose clamp on the air filter housing with a flat head screwdriver. Open the housing by pulling outward and upward on the clasps. Remove the air filter. Remove the Torx screw at the base of the housing. Detach the small air hose connected to the backside of the housing by gently pulling it off. Remove the housing from the engine compartment.

  • Remove the electrical plug from the HID headlight by holding the base of the headlight with one hand and gently but firmly pulling down on the electrical plug with the other hand.

  • Disconnect the tension spring by pushing the spring toward the base of the headlight and away from the hook.

  • Pull the headlight out of its housing.

  • Hold the new HID headlight by the base and insert it into its housing. Do not touch the glass section of the headlight with your fingers as skin oils will cause the bulb to burn out prematurely.

  • Reattach the tension spring then insert the electrical plug into the base of the headlight. Hold the plug with one hand and the base of the headlight with your other hand.

  • Replace the covers over the headlight compartments.

  • Reinsert the air filter housing into its original position and tighten the Torx screw. Reinsert the air filter and snap the cover back into place. Reconnect the air hose that you removed earlier and tighten its clamp.
