How to Take a 6-Slot CD Player Out Of a Mustang

The 2005 to 2009 Ford Mustang comes equipped with one of two different radio systems. The base model radio is a Shaker 500, and the upgraded model is the Shaker 1000. Both radios have a six-slot CD player built into them. If you want to upgrade to a system with more functionality or need to remove it for repairs, all you will need is a socket set.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • Grasp the plastic center console where it attaches to the front dash. Pull upward on the center console about an inch to separate the plastic from the sheet metal.

  • Pull straight out on the trim bezel on the left-hand size of the radio. This will pull the bezel free of the metal retaining clips that secure it to the dash frame. Duplicate the process for the trim bezel on the right-hand side.

  • Use a socket set to remove the six bolts (three on the right and three on the left) that secure the Shaker 500 or Shaker 1000 to the dash frame.

  • Pull the radio out of the Mustang's dash frame.

  • Remove the metal antenna connector from the lower left-hand corner of the radio by pulling out on it.

  • Disconnect the wiring harness by pushing in on the locking tab and then pulling out on the harness.
