How to Replace the Stop Light on a Lexus ES300

The Lexus ES300 has several stop or brake lights, including three running lights and a back-up light. You can disassemble the light mechanism from the body of the car to replace the brake light bulb or bulbs that have gone out. Since you will be taking apart part of the trunk and you will have multiple bolts and clips, you will want to have a container of some kind to hold the pieces so they don't get lost.

Things You'll Need

  • Adjustable socket wrench
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Replacement brake light bulb
  • Open the trunk. Remove the plastic rim liner that runs along the inside lip of the trunk.

  • Unclip the carpet lining of the trunk using your hands or the phillips head screwdriver if needed.

  • Unbolt the four bolts that hold the brake light assembly in place using the adjustable socket wrench. Remove the brake light assembly.

  • Pull out the bulb assembly that is burnt out. Unscrew the burnt out bulb. Screw in the replacement bulb.

  • Reassemble the brake light assembly by reversing the steps above.
