How to Replace a Mercedes 3rd Brake Light Assembly

The third brake light assembly, also known as the high-mount brake lamp, is an important safety component of your Mercedes-Benz vehicle. Replacing the brake light assembly entails purchasing an entirely new assembly from your local Mercedes-Benz dealer. The replacement process is very simple and only requires the use of a Phillips-head screwdriver. The entire procedure takes only a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Replacement brake light assembly
  • Turn off the vehicle's engine.

  • Remove the lens cover on the third brake light by removing the four screws plainly visible. Pull off the lens.

  • Disconnect the assembly by pushing in the tab on the electrical connector at the rear of the assembly.

  • Disengage the two clips on the assembly and pull it out. Install the new assembly and connect the electrical connector to the rear of the assembly.

  • Reattach the lens cover and install the screws.
