How to Replace the Rear Brake Line in a Kia

Kia Motors is an Asian car manufacturer that has many four-wheel-drive vehicles. Because of this, many are driven off-road which can result in undercarriage damage, including the rear brake lines. Although the brake lines are made from steel, they can become damaged through wear and tear and this can have an adverse effect on the quality of your braking system, which can be dangerous.

Things You'll Need

  • Drip pan
  • Flare wrench
  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Socket wrench
  • Raise the rear of your car with a jack and prop it with jack stands.

  • Locate the rear brake line that needs to be replaced. This will be along the top of the axle on one side of the Kia.

  • Place a drip pan underneath the car. Position this under the rubber flex hose, where the left and right lines meet in the center.

  • Remove the flare nut at the back of the rear-brake backing plate, using a flare nut wrench. When you do this, the flex hose will begin to leak fluid into your drip pan.

  • Remove the flare nut in the middle of the axle at the brass junction.

  • Loosen the bracket bolts that are holding the steel brake lines to the rear axle. Once removed, the brake lines will come off easily.

  • Fit the new lines into place and re-insert the flare nuts on both ends, tightening by hand.

  • Insert the retaining clip bolts.

  • Tighten the flare nuts using a flare wrench.
