How to Repair the Side Mirrors of a Chevy Truck

The side mirrors on all late-model Chevy trucks like the Chevy S-10 and the Chevy Silverado are made of a large plastic mirror housing, a mirror motor and a mirror lens. The mirror bolts to the side of the door. To remove the mirror you must take the door apart. It is much easier to repair the mirror by replacing the broken lens than it is to replace the entire mirror.

  • Push the right side of the truck's driver-side mirror into the mirror housing. If replacing the passenger side, push the left side of the truck's mirror lens into the mirror housing. This forces the other end of the mirror to sit outside of the mirror housing.

  • Grasp the mirror with your hand and pull outward to pull the mounting bracket on the back of the mirror free of the mirror motor mounted inside the housing.

  • Place the new mirror into the housing. The tight tolerance of the mirror housing forces the mirror to center on the mirror motor. Push in on the mirror until you feel it snap into place.
