How to Replace a Ford F550 Headlamp Assembly

If the headlights on your Ford F-550 begin to malfunction, they should be immediately replaced. Driving a vehicle with faulty headlights can lead to an accident, or a citation, from the police. The headlamp assembly replacement process is fairly simple on a Ford F-550 and only requires a socket wrench and Phillips screwdriver to perform. Although these exact instructions are for the 2008 F-550, they are also applicable to all F-550s produced between 2004 and 2009. For older models, the principle is the same. The differences lie in the location and number of bolts/screws on the assembly.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Replacement headlight assembly
  • Turn off the F-550 engine, and raise the hood.

  • Remove the three screws from the headlight assembly, using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the bolt from top of the assembly, using a socket wrench.

  • Remove the four screws from the headlight assembly retaining ring, and remove the ring from the vehicle.

  • Unplug the electrical connector from the rear of the headlamp assembly. Pull the assembly out of the vehicle, and replace it with an H6054 assembly.

  • Reconnect the electrical connector to the assembly. Place the retaining ring into the vehicle, and reinstall the four screws to the assembly.

  • Reattach the bolt and three screws to the assembly, and close the hood.
