How to Fix the Passenger Mirror on a Ford Freestar

Ford re-branded the Ford Windstar to the Ford Freestar in 2004. Although Ford touted the vehicle as an all-new platform, the Freestar resembled the Windstar in almost every aspect. The passenger mirror on the Ford Freestar mounts to the side of the door with three bolts that extend to a compartment locate inside the inner door panel. It is easier to repair the mirror by replacing the lens than replacing the whole mirror.

  • Push the left side of the mirror lens into the mirror housing on the Freestar, which pushes the right side of the mirror out of the housing.

  • Grasp the mirror with your hand and pull it outward. The brackets that hold the mirror inside the housing stretch as you pull on the lens. You will not damage the housing by pulling the mirror.

  • Place the new mirror lens into the housing. The tight tolerance of the housing forces the mirror lens to line up in the hole.

  • Push on the face of the lens with your hand to push the brackets around the mounting post, located inside the mirror, until you feel the lens seat against the post.
