How to Remove the Dash Stereo on a Saturn Ion

Upgrading or replacing the factory stereo in your Saturn Ion is difficult if you can't determine how to remove it. Modern vehicles have complicated dash panels and inlets that get in the way of stereo removal. You can use the same technique to remove the dash stereo of any model year Saturn Ion.

Things You'll Need

  • Pliers
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Use the pliers to disconnect the vehicle's battery. To prevent electric shock, disconnect the battery anytime you work with a vehicle's wiring.

  • Remove the two air vents on the dash panel above the Saturn radio. Grab the vents, then twist and pull them to remove. Slide your fingers into the vent holes and release the upper clips to the dash panel. Pull the top part of the panel off, then pull the bottom clips out to completely remove the panel.

  • Use the screwdriver to remove the two screws that mount the radio. Pull the radio unit out and disconnect the module from the rear.
