Honda Rear Bumper Cover Installation Instructions

The rear bumper cover of your Honda may have been removed for repairs, replacement or for swapping it out with a new bumper from a body kit. Regardless, the rear bumper cover is not hard to install, and doing it yourself can save money over having someone at a collision center do it. You can install the rear bumper cover on a Honda in less than an hour right in your own driveway.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Ratchet
  • 10mm socket
  • Hardware
  • Place the rear bumper cover on the ground, in the direction that it will sit when installed on the car. Make sure you have all of the plastic clips and Phillips screws from the original bumper or new hardware that came with the new bumper.

  • Hold one side of the bumper cover up and put it into place near the back of the rear wheel. There are several Phillips screws that go into each side, along the edge facing the rear wheel. Install these Phillips screws and tighten them. Do the same for the other side.

  • Open the trunk and replace the nuts on the four 10mm bolts that are coming up from underneath the car. In some Honda models, you may have to pull up on the edge of the carpet inside the trunk to find these bolts.

  • Locate the holes along the bottom edge of the bumper cover. There are black plastic clips that look like screws that fit in these holes. Push the clips into these holes and make sure they are being inserted into the underside of the car also, so that they bumper cover is being attached to the car. These plastic clips only need to be pushed into the holes by hand and require no tools.
