How to Replace a Pontiac Rear View Mirror

You can use the same process for replacing a Pontiac rearview mirror that you can use on most late model vehicles. The mirror on a late model Pontiac attaches to the windshield via a metal button which is glued to the glass. To remove the rearview mirror from the glass, you only need one tool. This makes removing the rearview mirror a simple process to complete. Pontiac uses this mirror setup on all of their late model vehicles, such as the 1999 through 2003 Grand Am, the 1995 through 2005 Sunfire and the 2003 through 2008 Vibe.

Things You'll Need

  • Torx driver
  • Push the mirror lens upward so it faces the roof of your Pontiac. This gives more room to access the Torx setscrew on the base of the mirror stem.

  • Remove the setscrew by turning it counterclockwise with a Torx driver. A Torx diver looks like a screwdriver except the end has an eight-pointed star instead of a flathead or Phillips end. You can get a Torx driver from most popular auto part supply stores.

  • Slide the mirror upward to remove it from the metal button.

  • Place the new mirror against the windshield on your Pontiac, directly above the button.

  • Slide the mirror downward onto the button until it seats into place.

  • Secure the mirror to the button by turning the setscrew inward, clockwise.
