After performing repairs on a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, warning and service lights may still be illuminated. The computer can be reset -- thereby clearing the codes -- using a simple process. The codes can also be cleared with a diagnostic scanner tool used at most authorized service centers. However, most locations will charge for this service. Any visible service or warning lights will eventually return if the problem persists, even after being temporarily cleared by resetting the computer.
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal using a socket and ratchet.
Connect the negative battery cable to the terminal after 15 minutes using a socket and ratchet.
Start the vehicle and let it idle for 10 minutes in a well-ventilated area in order for the computer to properly set the correct idle. Once the vehicle is restarted, the computer will be reset.
