How to Change a Turn Signal Fuse in a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado

An inoperable turn signal may be due to one of two turn signal fuses. A 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee has two fuses that control the signal, one located in the fuse box and one located in the junction box. Both fuses can be removed, inspected and replaced by most novice mechanics. Replacement relays and fuses can be purchased at most auto part stores and authorized dealerships. In addition to a fuse diagram located in the resources section of this guide, a fuse diagram is usually located on the back of the fuse box cover.

Things You'll Need

  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Flashlight
  • 15 AMP fuse
  • Turn signal relay fuse
  • Pull the fuse cover off the bottom left of the dashboard.

  • Pull the instrument cluster trim piece that is above the steering wheel.

  • Remove the two screws with the screwdriver that hold in the bottom trim piece. These two screws are only accessible after removing the trim piece removed in Step 2.

  • Remove the two bolts located on the bottom of the lower dashboard trim piece with a socket and a ratchet. Remove the screw on the left side of the lower trim piece with a screwdriver.

  • Locate the junction box now accessible after removing the lower trim piece. It is located just beyond the fuse box under the dashboard. The turn signal flasher relay is located on the top row directly in the middle (see Resources for diagram).

  • Pull the relay out with needle-nose pliers and push the new relay fuse into position.

  • Locate the fuse box next to the junction box underneath the dashboard. The turn signal fuse, a 15-amp, light blue fuse, is located on the longest row, fourth from the top (see Resources for diagram).

  • Pull the fuse out with needle-nose pliers and push the new fuse into position.

  • Put the lower dashboard trim piece into position and replace the two bolts located on the bottom of the lower dashboard trim piece with a socket and a ratchet. Replace the screw on the left side of the lower trim piece with a screwdriver.

  • Replace the two screws with the screwdriver that hold in the bottom trim piece near the steering column.

  • Push the instrument cluster trim piece that is above the steering wheel into place.

  • Push the fuse cover on the bottom left of the dashboard back into place
