How to Replace Volkswagen Cabrio Headlight Lamps

The Volkswagen Cabrio features a headlight assembly that facilitates replacing your headlight lamps, more commonly called bulbs. The bulbs are accessed through the rear of the assembly. No special tools are needed in part because no accessory parts have to be taken out to get to the headlight, such as the battery or grille. This is good news when your headlight lamps need replacing, a mandatory task for ensuring safety on the road.

  • Turn off your Volkswagen Cabrio and wait half an hour to change the headlight lamps if they have been on for a while.

  • Prop open the hood and look for the wiring harness running out of the rear of the headlight. Unplug this harness by depressing the side tabs and pulling it straight out.

  • Twist the weather cap off the rear of the assembly by turning it counterclockwise.

  • Reach into the assembly and release the retaining clips on the socket. Pull the socket out of the assembly and the bulb out of the socket. Insert the new bulb, return the socket to its original position and secure it with the retaining clips. Twist back on the weather cap and plug in the wiring harness.
