How to Take Apart an LS 2000 Saturn Door Panel

The 2000 Saturn LS was equipped with a one-piece door panel which covers the interior components of the door, including the window-regulator mechanism, the door lock, the door-latch assembly and the door glass. Disconnecting the door panel from the frame of the door is therefore necessary to service any of these components. Unlike most other types of door panels, the 2000 Saturn’s door panel is held in place with screws rather than retaining clips, which makes removal relatively straightforward.

Things You'll Need

  • Slot-head screwdriver
  • Hex wrench
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Window-crank snap-ring tool
  • Pry the side-view mirror cover off the top of the door panel with a slot-head screwdriver.

  • Turn the set screw located just above the wiring harness on the back of the side-view mirror cover in a counterclockwise direction with a hex wrench to disconnect the side-view mirror's control knob from the cover.

  • Remove the retaining screw from behind the door-latch handle with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

  • Slide the plastic panel located behind the door-latch handle towards the front of the door until it detaches from the door to expose the door-latch rod on the back of the plastic panel.

  • Push the blue-colored clip off the door-latch rod, where the rod attaches to the back of the plastic door-latch panel, with a slot-head screwdriver, then pull the rod upwards to disconnect it from the panel.

  • Slide a window-crank snap-ring tool between the window-regulator handle and the door panel, then rotate the handle until it is parallel to the window handle. Push the tool towards the base of the handle to push a hidden clip underneath the handle, which will free it from the door panel.

  • Remove both retaining screws from underneath the door-pull handle with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

  • Remove both retaining screws from the bottom of the door panel with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

  • Push the door panel upward approximately one inch to disconnect it from the door.
