How to Remove Seats From a Ford Focus

Depending on the year and model of your Ford Focus, you may have standard, manually adjusting seats, or power-adjusting seats. Either style has its benefits and pitfalls. However, both must have the seat removed from the Focus in order to have any repairs performed on the adjustment mechanism. Anyone with basic auto repair experience can remove the seats, but it’s best to have a helper assist you in actually taking them out of the car so that the seat legs don’t contact and damage any portion of the interior trim or exterior finish.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • Helper (optional)
  • Move the seat bottom as far back as it will go to expose the bolts holding the front legs to the floorboard.

  • Unbolt the front legs using the socket set.

  • Move the seat bottom as far forward as possible to expose the bolts holding the rear legs to the floor.

  • Unbolt the rear legs using the socket set. If these are powered seats, tilt the seat over to gain access to the seat motors. Unplug the wiring harness from the motor by hand.

  • Adjust the seat back as far forward as possible and then lift the seat up and pull it out of the car through the doorway. Have a helper guide the seat outward for this portion of the process.

  • Re-install the seats by reversing steps 1 to 5.
