How to Remove the Bumper From a Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius is a hybrid-electric powered automobile made by Toyota. If the front bumper of your Toyota cracks, chips, or is otherwise damaged, you may want to replace it. Replacement bumpers can be purchased from Toyota, or from some automobile paint and supply stores. The Prius uses ten bolts to secure the bumper to the bumper guard along with several retaining clips at the top of the bumper.

Things You'll Need

  • Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Screwdriver
  • Socket wrench
  • Raise the Toyota Prius onto jack stands. Lift up on the front jack point of the Prius, located just behind the radiator. Put jack stands underneath the front pinch welds which are located underneath the driver and passenger side doors on the underside of the car. Then lower the vehicle onto the stands.

  • Unscrew the screws in the front wheel wells using a screwdriver. Pull the wheel liner down.

  • Unbolt the ten bolts on the underside of the bumper. These hold the bumper to the bumper guard.

  • Grab onto the front of the bumper and pull the bumper forward to remove it. There are several plastic retaining clips that will pop out of the top of the bumper so you may need to pull rather hard to remove the bumper.

  • Unplug the power connector running to the back of the fog light ballast if your Prius is equipped with fog lights.
