How to Replace the Turn Signal Flasher on a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am

When the turn signal on your 1994 Pontiac Grand Am stops flashing, the relay may have failed. When the relay fails, other drivers on the road will have no indication when you are turning or changing lanes. It is important to keep your turn signals in proper working condition at all times for your safety and that of others on the road. You can easily replace the relay in minutes at home. Buy a new relay from an auto parts retail store.

  • Slide the driver seat all the way back on the adjustment track to open up space to work under the driver's side of the dash.

  • Lie on your back on the driver side floorboard and reach up underneath the dashboard. Locate the turn signal relay behind the fuse panel on the driver side. The relay is a large, cylinder-shaped object that plugs into a relay outlet on the backside of the fuse panel.

  • Pull the turn signal relay straight out of the relay outlet. Plug the new relay straight into the outlet. The prongs on the relay are specific, so the relay will only plug in one way.

  • Turn the ignition key to the “ACC” position and cycle through the turn signals to test the new relay.
