How to Clean a Throttle Body on a Pontiac Grand Prix

The throttle body on a Pontiac Grand Prix is responsible for delivering the fuel to the engine. Carbon deposits can sometimes build up on the inside of the throttle body opening and the throttle valve. Sometimes the valve will stick because of the carbon buildup. When this happens, clean the throttle body.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Throttle body cleaner
  • Wire brush
  • Clean towel
  • Use the screwdriver to loosen the screw on the hose clamp that connects the intake hose to the throttle body.

  • Slide the hose clamp out of the way, and pull the hose off the end of the throttle body.

  • Spray the throttle body cleaner into the throttle body opening.

  • Scrub the inside of the throttle body with a wire brush to remove all of the carbon buildup. Continually spray the inside of the body housing, including the valve if necessary, to remove the carbon buildup inside the housing.

  • Wipe the throttle body housing down with a clean towel.
