BMW E30 is a codename for the chassis of the popular 3-series produced from 1982 to 1994. BMW E30 vehicles shared many components during the production cycle, including the blower fan (sometimes called a blower motor). Vehicles such as the BMW 325 and 318, as well as the first BMW M3, were developed with the E30 chassis. The blower fan provides power to the air conditioner or heater when you operate the fan controls inside the vehicle. A faulty blower fan will not circulate cabin air, leaving your air conditioner and heater useless.
Turn the engine off and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. The battery in all BMW E30 models is located in the trunk.
Locate the blower fan housing compartment. It should be against the firewall in the center of the engine bay. Use the torx screwdriver to remove the six screws mounting the compartment.
Carefully pull off the weatherstripping in front of the blower fan assembly. Release the clips for the blower fan cover and set the cover aside.
Remove the bolts mounting the blower fan and disconnect the electrical modules. Remove the old blower fan and set aside.
Insert the new blower fan in the same position as the old. Use the socket wrench to secure the bolts. Reconnect the electrical modules and replace the fan cover and secure the clips.
Reinsert the weather stripping and recover the compartment with the main panel. Tighten the panel with the torx screwdriver and reconnect the negative battery cable.
