The Corvette, or 'Vette, is a sports car manufactured by General Motors. The car was introduced in 1953 and has remained a staple of the American muscle car lineup ever since. The Corvette has gone through six generations of redesigns since making its original debut. Over this time, improvements have been made to engine power output, the suspension and steering system and the aesthetics of the vehicle. Unfortunately, as a sports car, not a lot of attention is always placed on the audio system. While the Corvette is outfitted with a Bose radio, you may want to upgrade your system to an aftermarket one with a more powerful amplifier.
Disconnect the cable running to the negative battery terminal. Loosen the retaining nut on the cable clamp holding the cable to the negative terminal and slide the cable off the terminal.
Remove the three screws from the console trim panel.
Unplug the wiring harness that runs to the accessories outlet/cigarette lighter outlet.
Remove the two screws from the center air-conditioning vent and pull the vent off.
Remove the accessory trim plate by prying up on the panel with the tip of the flathead screwdriver.
Remove the three bolts holding the car stereo to the Corvette's dash with a socket wrench.
Pull the stereo out and unplug the antenna and the electrical plug in the back of the stereo.
Install the new stereo. Installation is the reverse of removal.
