How to Install an ABS Relay in a Chevy Impala

The Chevy Impala is one of Chevrolet's most popular models. The ABS relay is integrated within the Electronic Brake Control Module. Removing the ABS relay is not difficult and does not require any special tools. It must be replaced as a unit in the Chevy Impala, and it should only take you a few minutes to complete the task.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • New relay
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  • Find the Electronic Brake Control Module beneath the instrument panel. This panel should be located on the left side of the steering column.

  • Press down and out on the pressure tabs to release the Electronic Brake Control Module from its bracket. Do not use a great deal of force to remove the module. If it appears to be stuck, press the pressure tabs one at a time and support the module with your other hand.

  • Slip off the electrical harness and take the module out of the Chevy Impala.

  • Slide the new relay back onto the electrical harness and reattach the harness. Fasten the pressure tabs.

  • Return the assembly to its original position and reconnect the negative cable on the battery.
