How to Replace the Throttle Body in a Chrysler Sebring Convertible

The Chrysler Sebring is one of the few mainstream vehicles that offers a convertible. Launched in 1995, Sebring's style and value secures its place in the mid-size segment. Even with steeply raked roof line and windshield, the design provides ample headroom and an impressively generous trunk. The 2.5L V6 offers 163 horsepower with a four-speed automatic. The following information provides details about the installation of the throttle body in the 1995 and 1996 convertibles. Other models and engine types may require slightly different procedures.

Things You'll Need

  • Mechanic's toolset, including a full socket set, wrenches, screwdrivers
  • Torgue wrench
  • Clean shop cloths
  • Plastic scraper
  • Replacement gaskets
  • Take the ground battery cable from the left strut tower. Place the insulator grommet on the stud to prevent the battery from accidentally grounding. Remove the air cleaner/inlet resonator assembly.

  • Relieve the tension on the throttle cable and slide out the cable clasp to disengage the throttle cable. Rotate the lever on the throttle to wide open then slide the cable clasp out of the hole and remove the speed control cable.

  • Take the EVAP purge hose from the base of the throttle body. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the IAC motor and the TPS. Unfasten the bolts that hold the throttle body in place.

  • Lift out the throttle body from the vehicle. Place a clean shop cloth over the opening to the manifold to prevent dirt from falling into the engine. Remove the gasket and discard it. Clean the gasket mating surfaces thoroughly.

  • Position a new throttle body basket on the intake manifold, then set the throttle body over it. Install the mounting bolts and torque them to 250 inch pounds of torque.

  • Secure the IAC motor and the TPS electrical connections to the throttle body. Install the cruise control cable, then install the throttle cable onto the throttle level. Connect the EVAP purge hose to the throttle body.

  • Install the air cleaner/inlet resonator assembly. Connect the negative battery cable.
