The anti-lock braking system (ABS) of the Cadillac Escalade uses a wheel sensor to monitor the wheel speed on each wheel. The ABS controller uses this information to prevent the brakes from locking during an emergency stop. If the ABS warning light comes on, it may indicate the wheel sensor has become clogged with metallic debris such as brake dust.
Determine which ABS wheel sensor your Cadillac Escalade will need. Make sure the new wheel sensor is compatible with your make and model of Escalade. All versions of the Escalade have been equipped with ABS since its debut in 1999.
Remove the tire and wheel with a socket wrench. Disconnect the brake caliper and take the wheel hub and rotor off the axle.
Unplug the electrical connector for the wheel speed sensor and detach the mounting clips for the sensor cable from the frame. You will also need to remove a clip on the control arm if you have an all-wheel drive vehicle.
Unfasten the wheel speed sensor mounting bolts and two 11mm splash shield mounting bolts with a socket wrench. Remove the wheel speed sensor and splash shield from the vehicle as an assembly. Detach the splash shield gasket and clean it thoroughly with a dry cloth.
Install the new ABS wheel sensor by reversing the removal procedure. Use a torque wrench to tighten the splash shield mounting bolts to 12 foot pounds. Torque the speed sensor mounting bolts to 19 foot pounds if your vehicle has two-wheel drive and 13 foot pounds for all-wheel drive vehicles.
