How to Replace the Wiper Blades & Tubes on a GMC Yukon

Windshield wiper blades are safety features that clear rain, snow and other precipitation off of your windshield while you are driving. They can also be helpful when mud or salt is kicked up on the road. You should change your wiper blades at least once a year and you should check them regularly to ensure they are not too worn. The windshield washer tubes can also become cracked when water or washer fluid freezes in them. Replacing the tubes and wiper blades on a GMC Yukon is not difficult.

Things You'll Need

  • Wiper blade replacements
  • Windshield washer tubing

Replacing Wiper Blades

  • Pull up the arm on the windshield wiper on your GMC Yukon and turn the wiper blade out facing away from the windshield.

  • Press the release lever on the back of the wiper. Push the wiper blade toward the driver's side of the car until it slides out of the fitting on the wiper assembly.

  • Replace the old wiper blade with a new blade. Slide the wiper blade into the fitting on the windshield wiper and allow the release lever to pop back into place.

  • Turn the wiper blade back toward the windshield and move the wiper arm down to the windshield. Repeat the process on the Yukon's other windshield wiper blade.

Tube Replacement

  • Open the hood on your Yukon and locate the windshield washer reservoir on the passenger side near the middle of the engine compartment.

  • Remove the clips holding the reservoir in place and pull it up and out of the engine compartment, along with the attached washer pumps. Disconnect the tubes attached to the washer pumps by gently pulling them.

  • Follow the tubes to the ends, which are connected to the nozzles at the base of the windshield, and disconnect them by pulling gently. Slide the old tubes out of the engine compartment.

  • Connect the new tubes to the nozzles on the base of the windshield and route them around the engine compartment to the reservoir location.

  • Slide the tubes onto the washer pumps and slide the reservoir back into place. Secure the reservoir with the clips. Close the hood.
