How to Replace a Headlight Bulb in a Chevy Corvette

The headlights on your Chevy Corvette play an essential role in providing visibility and keeping you safe while driving at night. You should check them frequently to make sure they're working. When one burns out, you can easily replace the headlight bulb yourself. Please note these instructions apply only to models made from 1997 to 2004 with hidden headlamps.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • 9005 replacement bulb for high beams
  • 9006 replacement bulb for low beams
  • Open the headlight doors halfway by turning them quickly on, then back off using the parking lamps setting. This may take a few attempts before you get it just right. You can also open them manually by turning the adjuster counterclockwise.

  • Set the parking brake on your Chevy Corvette and remove the keys from the ignition before proceeding with any repairs.

  • Unscrew the screws from the headlight bezel with a Phillips head screwdriver. The screws are located on each side of the headlamp bezel.

  • Pop the hood by first releasing the interior release handle. Then, pull the hood up by the rear edge of the hood, near the windshield.

  • Remove the headlight bezel carefully, so as not to scratch the paint on your Chevy Corvette. Pull outward on the sides of the bezel slightly while tilting it forward. Pull the clip centered above the headlight lens outward to disengage the headlamp bezel fully.

  • Reach behind the headlight assembly and turn the bulb counterclockwise to remove it. Note that the inner bulb is the high beam and the outer bulb is the low beam.

  • Locate the correct bulb you wish to replace and disconnect it from the wiring harness. Install a replacement bulb and reconnect the wiring harness.

  • Reinstall the remaining components of the headlight assembly in the reverse order of removal. Close the hood on your Chevy Corvette and check that the headlights are working properly.
