If you seem to be having trouble getting the engine in your Chrysler Town & Country to fire, it may be time to replace your ignition coil. The Chrysler ignition coil converts the low-voltage of the battery into the high-voltage needed to trigger the spark plugs.
Prevent accidental electrocution by disconnecting the negative battery cable before working on your Chrysler Town & Country.
Locate the Chrysler ignition coil, which is at the back of the intake manifold. You may need to remove the wiper/motor module assembly to access the coil.
Unplug the wiring harness connector from the ignition coil, and remove the ignition wire, which attaches to the coil. Make a note of which spark plug wires connect to each coil high-tension terminal. If you fail to reconnect these correctly, your Chrysler Town & Country won't start.
Loosen and remove the bolts from the mounting bracket. Separate the ignition coil from the mounting bracket and replace with the new ignition coil. Coat the inside of each plug wire connector with silicone dielectric compound.
Reassemble the ignition coil by reversing the steps used during removal. If you have a Torque wrench, install the bolts that connect the mounting bracket to the manifold to 115 inch pounds (13 Nm) of torque and the ones connecting the coil to the mounting bracket to 96 inch pounds (10 Nm) of torque.
