The Honda Accord has an electric fuel pump so you should check its fuses and relays and ensure you have fuel before performing the more difficult task of inspecting it. If your vehicle still has difficulty getting fuel you may need to clean or replace the fuel pump. The Honda Accord comes in a variety of styles and trim levels that can affect the replacement fuel pump you choose.
Determine which fuel pump your Honda Accord will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. Models made from 1976 to 1985 have a 1.6L or 1.8L engine and 1986 to 1989 models have a 2.0L engine. Models built from 1990 to 1993 are equipped with a 2.2L engine. Models made from 1994 to 1997 have a 2.2L or a 2.7L engine.
Look at more recent generations of the Honda Accord. Models manufactured from 1998 to 2002 have 2.3L or 3.0L engines and models made from 2003 to 2007 will have a 2.4L or 3.0L engine. The eighth generation of the Honda Accord debuted in 2008 and is available with 2.0L, 2.2L, 2.4L and 2.2L turbo diesel engines.
Prepare your vehicle for fuel pump servicing. Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Remove the spare tire cover (if present) and trunk floor so that you can open the access panel and disconnect the electrical connection from the fuel pump.
Remove the fuel pump's electrical connector and disconnect the quick connect fitting from the fuel pump. Remove the fuel tank locknut using tool 07AAA-S0XA100 or the fuel tank retaining bolts with a socket wrench, depending on the year and engine. Remove the fuel tank.
Install the new fuel pump using the items included in the kit and be sure to replace the gasket and O-rings. Align the arrows on the fuel tank and pump.
Complete the installation by reversing the removal procedure.
