Location of the Engine Coolant Temp Sensor on a 1996 Ford Bronco

The 1996 Ford Bronco -- the last year the full-size Bronco was made -- was the first vehicle to have turn signal lights mounted on the exterior rear-view mirrors as part of an enhanced safety package. If you're replacing the engine coolant temperature sensor on your Bronco, partially drain the cooling system first to save yourself from cleaning up a mess.

Where Is It?

  • On the 5.0-liter engine, find the ECT sensor mounted in the intake manifold on the passenger side of the water outlet. On the 5.8-liter engine, the sensor is screwed into the top of the thermostat housing. Tighten the sensor to 10 to 15 foot-pounds.
