Putting Anti-freeze in a 2001 Chevy S10

The cooling system is one of the key parts of your S-10's engine, and periodic inspection of the coolant level can help keep your truck from breaking down. Though the cooling system in your 2001 S-10 is sealed, it can still lose small amounts of antifreeze through small vapor leaks.

Adding Antifreeze

  • Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature -- roughly halfway up the temperature gauge. Open the hood, and slowly unscrew the cap from the coolant recovery tank -- the translucent, plastic tank on the front, passenger side of the engine compartment -- with the engine still idling. Add 50-50 premixed Dex-Cool coolant to the coolant recovery tank until the coolant level reaches the "Full Hot" line.
