How to Repair the Washer Pump in an '05 Suzuki Forenza

The Suzuki Forenza is actually built by Korean car company Daewoo, and then sold all over the world. In the U.S. it's called the Suzuki Forenza. In Canada you will find it as the Chevrolet Optra and Optra5. The car is also sold under the Chevrolet badge as the Nubira in some European countries. All of the cars sold in the U.S. came with a 2.0-liter engine that produced 119 horsepower. Repairing the windshield washer motor is something you can do right in your driveway.

Things You'll Need

  • Wheel chocks
  • Torque wrench
  • 1/2-inch-drive metric socket set
  • 1/2-inch-drive breaker bar
  • 1/4-inch-drive ratchet
  • 1/4-inch-drive socket set
  • Jack
  • Jack stand
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front, driver-side wheel.
Place wheel chocks behind the rear tires and place the jack under the pinch weld that is the driver-side, front jacking point. Jack the car up, put the jack stand under the frame and remove the lug nuts and wheel.

  • Remove the five bolts with the 1/4-inch socket and ratchet, then use the Phillips head screw driver to remove the four remaining screws on the splash shield in the fender well. Remove the splash shield to access the washer tank.

  • Place a drain pan under the washer tank. Remove the hose from the washer motor. Pry the hose lightly with the screwdriver to get it moving, then pull it off the motor. Remove the electrical connector and pull the motor out of the washer tank. Use a twisting and pulling motion to get the motor out.

  • Insert the washer motor into the washer tank by pushing it straight into the rubber grommet. Put the hose back on the motor and connect the electrical connector. Fill the washer tank and check for leaks, and test to make sure the motor works. Install the splash shield, and put the wheel back on. Snug the lug nuts. Lower the car to the ground and torque the lug nuts to 74 foot-pounds in a crisscross pattern.
