The Geo Metro window crank handles have to come off if you are going to remove the inner trim panel to perform any work inside the door. The handle is held in place with a snap ring that is not visible from the outside of the door, making it tough to get off. A window crank handle tool is available at most auto parts store and will allow you to get behind the handle and remove the snap ring.
Open the door of the car so you have plenty of room to work. Slide a crank handle removal tool behind the crank handle.
Turn the crank handle slowly while applying slight pressure to the top of the tool. You will feel the tool drop onto the clip. It will try to turn with the handle when it is in the right position.
Push the tool in toward the center of the crank handle. Be sure to place a hand under the crank handle to catch the clip. Keep pushing in until the clip pops loose.
Grasp the handle on the round section at the door and pull it straight out, separating it from the crank shaft on the window regulator.
