How to Remove an Ignition Control Module in a 2000 Chevy S10

On a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup, there is an ignition module located on the engine that helps control the spark going to the distributor coil, which puts out power to the plugs. If your truck isn't starting and cranks continuously without turning over, a bad module could be the source of your problems. Fortunately, this is an easy piece to replace, but first, you have to remove the old one.

Things You'll Need

  • Open-end wrench set
  • 1/4-inch ratchet and socket set
  • Pop the hood. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery with a wrench. Locate the ignition module on the passenger side of the engine, right on the top by the distributor.

  • Disconnect the electrical connections on the ignition module using your hands. Pull off the ignition wire running to the distributor using a twisting motion as you pull it up.

  • Unscrew the bracket that holds the module to the intake manifold using the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Then lift the module off of the engine using your hands.
