The Dodge Caravan utilizes an electrical motor to circulate air inside the vehicle when the heater or air conditioner is in use. Over time, this motor can wear out and need to be replaced. If you turn on the heater motor control switch, located in the dash, and you cannot hear the fan spinning, you most likely must replace the motor. This fan also supplies hot air to power the defroster. If the heater motor burns out on your Dodge Caravan, you should replace it immediately.
Disconnect the ground cable from the negative battery terminal by loosening the retaining bolt and pulling the clamp off the terminal.
Locate the heater motor access panel. It will be a flat piece of black plastic underneath the dash on the passenger side of the Caravan, just behind the glove box. Use a socket to remove the five screws that secure the access panel to the dash.
Disconnect the plastic electrical connector from the heater motor by prying the retaining tab away from the connector with a flat-head screwdriver and pulling the connector off the motor.
Use a socket to remove the four screws that secure the heater motor to the dash. Pull out the heater motor and fan blades as an assembly.
Remove the nut in the center of the fan blades that secure the fan blades to the motor's shaft.
Slide the fan blades onto the shaft on the new heater motor, and reinstall the nut that retains it.
Slide the heater motor into position underneath the dash. Reinstall the four screws that retain it.
Reconnect the plastic electrical connector to the heater motor by sliding it onto the electrical leads.
Lift the heater motor access panel into position underneath the dash, and reinstall the five screws that retain it.
Reconnect the ground cable to the negative battery terminal by sliding the clamp over the negative post and tightening the retaining bolt.
