How to Disable the Security System on the 1995 Chevy Camaro

Sold for almost four decades before Chevrolet pulled the plug in 2002, the Camaro saw numerous changes in both body style and performance. This included a 200 horsepower V6 engine that was offered for the first time in 1995. For the 1995 models, the alarm was an optional feature, and the VATS security key came standard. The key was equipped with a chip to ensure the car only started and ran with the proper ignition key. Like other alarms, the Camaro's alarm was operated via remote, making it easy to arm and disable.

Things You'll Need

  • Keyless entry key fob
  • Programed ignition key
  • Press the unlock key on your keyless entry key fob to unlock the doors and deactivate the Camaro's alarm system.

  • Put the programmed VATS key in the ignition and turn the key forward one notch to engage the battery. The engine should remain off.

  • Locate the black box under the dashboard and flip the toggle switch in the opposite direction. This disables the alarm. Once disabled the alarm beeps once and the blinking light on the dashboard remains solid.
