The factory installed anti-theft system on 2001 Mercury Sables is a passive anti-theft system designed to protect the vehicle from theft by preventing the engine from starting. The system is armed automatically when the ignition is switched to the off position and can only be disabled by a specially coded key.
Locate and insert the specially coded Mercury key. Your vehicle should have been supplied with two coded keys. You can purchase spares from your dealership.
Turn the ignition to the "On" position.
Ensure that the "Theft" light on the dashboard dims after three seconds of illumination.
