How to Install a Car Alarm in a Ford Mustang

A basic alarm system for a Ford Mustang includes a shock sensor, horn, remote and start disable. Installing the alarm in the Ford Mustang gives you a new level of security and possibly a break on your insurance. Putting in a basic alarm requires a working knowledge of car electrical systems and the ability to easily identify wires and connections.

Things You'll Need

  • Alarm kit with vehicle wiring adaptors
  • Zip ties
  • Drill
  • Screwdrivers
  • Read the installation manual and identify all of the parts included. Remove the positive battery cable and locate a space in the engine bay to mount the alarm siren.

  • Mount the alarm siren so that it faces the engine to limit exposure to water when driving. Run the siren wires along the body or firewall towards the driver's side. Connect the alarm power wire to the positive battery cable and pull it along the firewall to the side of the siren wires. Twist the siren and power wires together loosely and feed them through a hole in the firewall.

  • Remove the trim below the steering wheel and find a secure location as far into the dash as possible. The older classic Ford mustang models have easy access from below the dash and don't require panel removal. Secure the alarm control module to a heavy bundle of wires with zip ties or drill and mount to a metal cross brace.

  • Place the shock sensor per the manufacturer's instructions and run the wires towards the control module. Identify the power door lock relay if the car is equipped and plug in the door lock alarm module. Locate the starter wire coming from under the steering wheel and attach the start disable relay per the alarm manufacturer's instructions.

  • Drill a small hole for the LED light in a place that is highly visible from the outside of the car. Secure the LED light and run the wire to the alarm control module.

  • Connect the power, siren, shock sensor, LED and start disable wires to the control module. Reconnect the positive battery cable, test the alarm, and adjust the sensitivity if necessary.
