How to Reset the Phase Linear Car Stereo

Phase Linear, a subsidiary of Jensen, manufactures and distributes car audio products sold throughout the world. Although several different models exist, certain Phase Linear CD car stereo models feature an easy method used in resetting the internal memory settings of the head unit. Resetting the head unit to the original default settings will restore proper functionality under certain error conditions. Performing a reset will also provide a convenient way to adjust the CD player's controls from the original baseline settings.

Things You'll Need

  • Paper clip or ballpoint pen
  • Vehicle owner's manual
  • Automotive fuse puller
  • Turn the vehicle's ignition switch to the “ACC” or equivalent position.

  • Press the “Open” button if your particular model includes a retractable LCD monitor.

  • Examine the faceplate of the CD player and locate the small recessed “RESET” button. If the CD player features a detachable faceplate, press the “Release” button and remove the faceplate from the head unit; the reset button for certain detachable faceplate models may be located below the head unit's disc-loading slot.

  • Depress the small "Reset" button with the tip of a ballpoint pen or paper clip. Hold the "Reset" button for one or two seconds to restore the head unit to the original factory defaults.

  • Examine the owner's manual for the vehicle and find the location for the “RADIO” fuse, if your particular CD player model does not include a "Reset" button. Typically, the appropriate radio fuse will be located within the cabin area of the vehicle. Turn the vehicle's ignition to the “OFF” position.

  • Open the fuse panel compartment and remove the appropriate “RADIO” fuse, using an automotive fuse puller. Most vehicle manufacturers affix a small fuse location diagram to the fuse panel cover for your convenience.

  • Reinsert the fuse into the panel to complete the reset procedure.
