How to Replace the Compact Disc Player 5070 in an Isuzu Rodeo

The Isuzu Rodeo came with either a cassette player, CD player, or CD changer. The premium radio model 5070 was an in-dash, six-disc changer and AM/FM combo unit. If your disc changer has stopped working, you'll want to replace it with a new one. Ideally, you'll use a replacement Isuzu factory radio to make the installation process straightforward. The process is the same for the Isuzu Rodeo and Honda Passport, as the vehicles shared many components.

Things You'll Need

  • Pliers
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Loosen the negative battery cable nut with pliers, and then unhook the cable from the battery to isolate it and prevent shock.

  • Open the ashtray beneath the radio. Grasp the metal compartment inside the ashtray and lift it out with your fingers. Beneath the metal compartment, you'll find a small Phillips screw. Remove it, then slide the ashtray out.

  • Grasp the bottom edges of the radio surround panel. Pull sharply to unhook the bottom half of the panel, and then pull away the top part to remove it from the dash. The panel is attached by simple rivets on the other side.

  • Remove the two Phillips screws from each side of the CD player. Pull it out and unplug the two connections from the back. The larger one is the wiring harness. The smaller one is the antenna cable.

  • Plug the antenna cable into the new CD player, and then plug in the wiring harness. If you are not installing an Isuzu factory radio, you'll need to refer to the specific instructions that came with the aftermarket radio to wire the unit to the Rodeo.

  • Slide the new CD player into the dash and secure it with the four Phillips screws.

  • Position the radio surround panel back against its mount. Push the top firmly to snap the top rivets in and then push the bottom in.

  • Partially insert the ashtray and then insert and tighten its Phillips screw. Place the metal compartment inside the ashtray. Close the ashtray.

  • Attach the negative cable to the battery. Tighten the nut. Test the new CD player.
