The Delta 88 was one of the names given to the Oldsmobile 88 range of cars, manufactured by General Motors from 1949 to 1999. Many models came equipped with a factory issue stereo, incorporating an AM/FM receiver and cassette player. Replacing the factory issue stereo with an aftermarket version with more features requires adapting the wiring and housing of the car to allow the new radio to fit and function in the vehicle.
Disconnect the negative terminal of the car battery.
Remove the three Phillips screws located above the dash and instrument panel. Pull the plastic radio trim panel from the main assembly. Remove the four bolt screws securing the radio in place with a socket wrench. Remove the fifth bolt screw under the base of the radio to release the radio from the dashboard. Pull the radio out. Disconnect the wiring.
Adapt the housing for an aftermarket radio to fit. Connect the radio installation sleeve supplied with the aftermarket radio to a faceplate adapter in the radio installation kit. Slide the sleeve through the portal of the faceplate adapter until the front end is level with the faceplate. Bend the tabs on the side of the sleeve 90 degrees into the holding slots on the rear of the faceplate. Slide the assembly into the vacant dashboard housing. Feed the radio wiring from the dashboard out through the portal of the radio installation sleeve.
Attach the wire harness from the car, which contains the power, ground and speaker wires, to a wire harness adapter. Attach the other end of the adapter to the wire harness of your new stereo. Ensure the connections are secure by gently tugging on them.
Plug the radio antenna cable -- the thick black cable from the dashboard -- into the radio antenna port on the left-hand side of the rear of the stereo.
Slide the wiring and radio into the installation sleeve. Push the radio in until it locks into place. Reassemble the dashboard panel. Reconnect the vehicle battery.
