Aftermarket Radio Installation in a Mercedes C230

Owners of the Mercedes-Benz C230 have a bevy of choices at the time of purchase for their factory car stereo. If you ever need to replace or update it, you can take it to a professional or save a little money and take on the task yourself with a few simple tools.

Things You'll Need

  • 10 mm wrench
  • Mercedes-Benz DIN removal tools
  • Wiring harness adapter
  • Faceplate adapter
  • Loosen the bolt holding the grounding cable clamp to the negative battery terminal with the wrench or pliers.

  • Insert each of the DIN removal tools into the slots at the bottom corners of the stock radio until they lock into place.

  • Pull both tools simultaneously and with equal force to slide the factory stereo from the mounting dock. Pull the head unit far enough from the dashboard to allow you to reach the wiring connections at the back of the unit.

  • Disconnect the stereo wiring from the back of the radio. Unplug the antenna cable lead from the outlet on the lower right corner of the stereo's rear panel of outlets. Slide the faceplate adapter into the vacant mounting dock. Pull the stereo wiring and antenna cable from the back of the dock to the front of the dashboard.

  • Plug the two plastic wiring connectors into the two wiring harness adapter leads. Plug the adapter's leads into the outlets on the left side of the aftermarket stereo's back panel. Insert the antenna cable into the FM antenna input on the back of the new unit.

  • Slide the aftermarket stereo into the opening provided by the faceplate adapter. Push the unit into the Mercedes' dash until it snaps into place.
