How to Check the Transmission Fluid in a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo

The transmission fluid inside of the 2002 Isuzu Rodeo protects the moving parts inside of the transmission by keeping them cool and lubricated. Once that the transmission fluid starts to break down, it will not be able to protect the transmission parts as it should. This is how significant and costly damages can happen to the transmission. Keep a check on the transmission fluid on a regular basis and change the transmission every 40,000 to 50,000 miles as recommended by the manufacturer.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet
  • Socket
  • Drive the Rodeo around for about ten minutes to warm the transmission fluid up. Then park the Rodeo on a level surfae nd set the emergency brake. Leave the engine running.

  • Crawl under the driver side of the Rodeo and locate the transmission fluid pan. The transmission fluid pan will be attached to the bottom of the transmission. There are two plugs on the very bottom of the transmission fluid pan. The transmission fluid drain plug is located almost dead center on the bottom of the pan. The transmission fluid fill plug is located 6 inches to the rear of the drain plug towards the back ofthe transmission pan. The fill plug is also sitting inside of a recessed groove to make the fill plug higher than the drain plug.

  • Loosen and remove the rear transmission fill plug with a ratchet and socket. Once you remove the fill plug on the 2002 Isuzu Rodeo while the engine is running, the transmission fluid should drip out of the fill plug hole. If there is no fluid coming out of the fillm hole while the engine is running, then the transmission is low of fluid. You will need to add the transmission fluid with a fluid pump and a long plastic hose.

  • Wipe off the plug and tighten the plug back down tight with the ratchet and socket. Crawl back out from under the Rodeo and shut the truck off.
