Kicker CVR Specifications

The Kicker CompVR, frequently referred to as the CVR, is an aftermarket automotive subwoofer. Available in four sizes, this subwoofer allows for installation in either sealed or vented enclosures and can handle a great deal of amplifier power. Kicker designed this subwoofer with an attractive exterior face to allow mounting in the open.

Size

  • The Kicker CompVR is available in four sizes: 8-, 10-, 12- and 15-inch diameters. Power handling varies depending on the size of the CVR. While the 8-inch model can handle 200 watts of RMS power, and the 15-inch model 500 watts, both the 10- and 12-inch models can handle 400 watts of RMS power. For brief peaks, all Kicker CVR subwoofers can handle twice their RMS rating, making the 15-inch CompVR capable of handling 1,000 watts.

Frequency Response

  • All CompVR subwoofers offer response down to 25 hertz (Hz), except the 8-inch model, which has a minimum frequency of 30 Hz. All sizes have a top frequency response rating of 500 Hz.

Sensitivity

  • As with power handling and response, the speaker's sensitivity varies depending on its size. The 15-inch model can generate 89.2 decibels at 1 meter away from a one watt input. The 12-, 10- and 8-inch models generate 86.9, 83.6 and 82.8 decibels, respectively.

Impedance

  • All four of the Kicker CVR subwoofers are relatively current hungry, presenting either 2 or 4 ohms of impedance. ("Impedance" measures the speaker's resistance to the power sent to it; and low-impedance speakers require power in the form of current, or amps.) As such, the Kicker CVR requires good-quality amplifiers with strong power supplies.
